Recording Labels.

Ministry of Sound is a night club and record label based in south london which was founded in 1991.
Ministry of Sound focus on many different types of genre music and have created many different albums for each of these genres. Main focused genres include dub step, drum and bass, house, DJ nightclub, dance etc. Their logo is of a crown on top of a circle with ministry of sound written round the sides. The logo and name 'ministry' reminds me of government, kings, queens, Britain, Parliament etc. The name ministry, meaning 'The work or vocation of a minister of religion' could represent music being a religion and that ministry of sound are the creators and ministers of music. Their logo is used a lot on their CD Covers and is normally always implemented into the design. They change their logo by adding effects and colour for each album for the different genres of music such as lighting effects and different colour coordinations get used. For Dubstep and Garage they tend to add more of an urban feel by placing the logo on things like walls with graffiti for adding a more underground urban feel. However with house they add more lighting to represent a rave and nightclub feel.

Def Jam is an American recording label which was founded in 1983 who focus mainly on Hip Hop and urban music and who are also grouped with 'the Island' record label. Their logo is different to ministry of sound, in the way it is more urban and simple using just the spray paint technique with the text. They also have another more formal business logo which is just plain text font and layout just without the spray paint effect. Def Jam targets on hip hop and urban music but other than the ministry of sound, def jam don't create their own albums and have their logo as big on the front of albums. def jam have worked and had number 1's from Kanye West, Rihanna, Jay-z, Ne-Yo, and Justin Bieber.
